TAXIS
Taxis are easily located in the main cities and towns, usually outside the main bus stations, or in hotel and tourist areas. In big cities like Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata, your best option is to call one of the taxi service companies 24 hours a day, ask at your hotel or a local for the best ones and make the call yourself. In Santo Domingo, for example, Apolo Taxi is one of the most popular, as is Aero Taxi. When you call, ask the operator to confirm the car color, unit number, and estimated wait time. You should also ask for confirmation of the fare to your destination, fares within cities are established by the taxi association.
UBER + CABIFY
The popular ride-sharing service UBER was launched in the Dominican Republic in 2015, and now operates in three major cities: Santo Domingo, Santiago, and Puerto Plata. Cabify also operates in Santo Domingo. These applications are as safe to use in the Dominican Republic as in any other destination. More visitors are turning to them due to the language barrier, there is no need to speak to a taxi operator on the phone. INTERCITY BUS SERVICE
One of the main advantages of the Dominican Republic is the comfortable and inexpensive bus services that connect the main regions of the country. There are three reputable companies that offer daily service on modern buses with Wi-Fi and movies. Metro Tours buses connect Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Sosúa, La Romana / Casa de Campo, and there are daily departures to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Caribe Tours travels to Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Sosúa, with more frequent daily departures, Barahona, Cabrera, Jarabacoa, La Vega, Montecristi, Samaná and other towns in the Dominican Republic, as well as Haiti. Expreso Bávaro is the only great bus service that connects Santo Domingo and Bávaro every day, ideal for travelers to Punta Cana.
Bus fares range from RD $ 200 to RD $ 500 one way. Make sure to arrive at least an hour before departure to ensure a space to sit, and bring a light jacket or scarf on board, as these buses are to keep the air conditioning at its coldest.
LOW COST MINIBUS SERVICE OR GUAGUAS
The smaller, privately owned and operated minibuses, called guaguas, travel daily on scheduled routes, taking travelers within a city, or long-distance to small and large destinations around the Dominican Republic.
Long-distance buses are as comfortable as large buses, with capacity for no more than 20-25 passengers, each with a seat and some with Wi-Fi connection. Look for the ones labeled "Express"; It cannot be sent along the highway to pick up passengers, unlike regular ones, which can greatly shorten your trip.

MINIVAN BUSES
Downtown buses tend to be white, stopping to pick up or drop off anyone on the designated route as many times as necessary, and are the slowest way to get around. Passengers are crammed together and space magically appears just when you think there is no room for anyone else. It is also the cheapest way to travel within the limits of a city or town. Be sure to bring small change for your passage, as these vans don't carry a lot of cash; otherwise, you may have to pay more. Each bus has a driver, and a conductor who calls the passengers along the way, is in charge of picking up the passengers and shouts to the driver the requested stops. He informs the driver of your destination as soon as you board, and be prepared to pay immediately or as soon as they ask.
MOTORCYCLE TAXIS OR MOTORCONCHES
Moto taxis are popular with locals in big cities like Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata, and even Jarabacoa, because they are the cheapest and fastest way to avoid traffic. But it is also the most dangerous way to travel, particularly in cities or areas with heavy traffic. Many motorcycle taxis do not provide helmets, although they are legally required to do so. However, riding a slow motorbike taxi in the mountainous towns of Jarabacoa and Constanza is a good way to enjoy the spectacular scenery. Official motorcycle taxis usually wear a neon-colored vest, but keep in mind that this is not always the case. Ask for the motoconcho center in your city, or get a reference from your guest house. Rates vary between RD $ 25 to RD $ 75 in the city, depending on the distance.
SHARED TAXIS OR CONCHOS
Also known as car-conchos, carts, or simply conchos, these four-door vehicles are shared taxis, similar to city buses because they travel on specific routes and stop anywhere along the route at the request of passengers. They can be found in large cities, as well as in towns and villages. They are a slightly more comfortable method than buses, but passengers are also squeezed in the back and front. Fares range from RD $ 25 to RD $ 50 depending on the distance, they are significantly cheaper than the rates for a private taxi, which start at RD $ 150.
